A Valentine for Family and Friends

May you find serenity and tranquility
in a world you may not always understand.

May the pain you have known,
and the conflict you have experienced
give you the strength to walk through life
facing each new situation
with optimism and courage.

Always know that there are those
whose love and understanding
will always be there
even when you feel most alone.

May you discover enough goodness in others

To Richie,

Thought that I should write something about love since it is Valentine's Day. But life is so different for me now.  From the time you were born, you became a reason for my existence. The first time I touched your face, I understood what unconditional love was all about. It is a love that surpasses all others in our lives. It seems like only yesterday that I held your hand as you crossed the street. I remember helping you write your first Valentine card to a sweet Second grader and how proud you were as you carried them to class. Glimpses of you flirt with my mind everyday and make me smile. And at times they also cause me great sadness. I wish that I could have bottled some of that hardy laughter you had and open it up when I feel down. But I have my memories to see me through. Those were beautiful and precious times that I will treasure forever. 

So, on this Valentine's Day Rich, I want to send you my love. Even though you are not physically here with me, my love for you remains as strong and protective as the first day I held you in my arms. And I just wanted to let you know...your precious memories will always be there to warm my heart and enlighten my spirit. And of all the things that I have received in this life none are as precious as the smiles you give my heart.
